Saturday in Tokyo and there are people everywhere - thank goodness Philip is here to help manouvre around train system. We went to "electric city" Akihabara today as we woke to rain and 19C. Getting around with people and umbrellas taking up every spare bit of space on the footpaths is interesting and the colours, lights, sprukers add to the mayhem. Bought a new digital camera and a couple of SD cards so cheap compared to Adelaide. Got back at 5pm just in time for the luggage delivery.
Sunday and weather has cleared so head off to Harajuicu where the kids dress up in all sorts of weird gothic outfits. Not sure if there are more tourists taking pictures than kids, place is pretty busy. Move on to Meiji Shrine where a number of locals offer to guide us as part of ESS (English Speaking Society) really interesting shrine and saw 3 traditional dress weddings while there. Leaving the grils who acted as our guides we move on to Yoyogi Park where the Rockabillies are in full dance. A group of guys dressed up in black leather and mainly Elvis style hair dancing to old American rock and roll. In another area there are the bands jamming and John decided to join in as the group were appropriately named. After lunch in the park (okonomiyaki - which is a mix between pancake and omlette) we move on to Shinkuku Metropolitan Government offices the 45th floor for the most amazing views (and its free). The city just goes on forever. From here we take the train to Odaiba first checking out the TokyoBig Site (Exhibition hall) then Odaiba which is an amazing place to watch the sunset over the Statue of Liberty (yes they have one too).
