Leeds Castle and trip to next B&B
Off we went to Leeds Castle - how amazing this castle has been around forever. At one stage there were 3000 acres of land but they have got rid of a lot over the years but there is still a huge lawn, wood, garden and golf course as part of the grounds. A very deep moat around the castle and then the castle itself. The history is incredible as you move from room to room where they have furnished it to replicate various times over the centuries. We spent several hours just roaming around the castle and grounds and also were fortunate to be there in time to watch a display of falconry.
From Leeds we headed off to Dover, if you are that close you really have to see the white cliffs for yourself and I have no words to describe the view as you drive down the hillside and see the cliffs which are depicted in so many songs and stories.
We decided to take the scenic drive back to our B&B along the coast - unfortunately the scene consisted of walls along the coast for miles to ensure that the waves don't come up and destroy the roads and beaches so there wasn't much to see. Eventually we came to St Marys Bay (aptly named I thought) and there parked the car to check the beach which consisted of lots of pebbles rather than sand. Really wouldn't suggest lying on it for long but I suppose a deckchair might be okay.
Today we travelled via Battle, where the Battle of Hastings was fought on October 14th 1066. We walked over the actual battle grounds and could imagine the difficulties the armies had moving forward over uneven ground covered with brambles and a lot of marsh areas. After that we drove to Brighton to take a walk on the infamous Brighton Pier. Suggested to John not staying long as car parking was GBP1.00 per hour. (Rather spend the money on a drink thanks) We drove on and arrived at a small village called Fittleworth where we are staying the night in a very nice B&B which used to be a post office and was originally build about 15th century. Well I have a Scotch and Dry to drink and sorry Ian can't even remember what a spreadsheet is let alone how to attach one, catch up again shortly.

Hello!
I'm glad to hear you got from Tokyo to the UK with no hassles. Sounds like the accomodation over there is a little more spacious, but do they make you a nice cup 'o tea when you get home ;-)
Keep up the posting, I'm enjoying the journey from here!
