Wales to Livepool to Yorkshire

Tuesday night we had a cheap night out going to see the Caernarfon Male Welsh Choir practice, visitors being welcome for the 2 hour performance. Was really great, had heard the various Welsh choirs on TV occassionally but to see one perform live was really excellent. The music was mainly in there native tongue but due to the high number of American tourists they did a couple of American songs.

On to Liverpool, we had booked over the internet what we thought looked like a good hotel. You gotta get things wrong occassionally. We had taken a scenic route from Wales and stopped off at Llandudno seaside resort village and a couple of other small places so arrived at hotel around 2pm. The hotel wasn't that bad but the area it was in left a lot to be desired. Decided to catch up on some laundrey at the local laundromat. Sitting reading a book, John had disappeared to do his own thing, and 5 young guys that looked like hoods walked in. Nervourly I kept reading as they referred to the "old woman" and a few profound words came from there mouth. Luckily the attendant decided to appear from a back area of the laundromat which I didn't know existed and 4 of them disappeared down the street leaving one to do his laundrey. A lot of the houses were either boarded up windows or bricked up and the businesses seemed to be like fortresses. Anyhow laundrey all finished - John returned and we scarpered back to the hotel.

Next day we went to Albert Dock and had a tour of the Beatle Story which was very interesting and did show that Liverpool used to be an okay place. Albert Dock is done up really nicley. Afterwards we dropped over to Mitchel Street and checked out the Cavern where the Beatles started playing. After a couple of drinks and soaking up the atmosphere we made our way back to the hotel where we stayed till today and headed off to York.

Unfortunately, John banged (possibly broke) his toe on the bath this morning so can't walk to far. We rocked up to York and decided that as he couldn't walk to much we would go on to Malton and stay a couple of nights there. Much quieter than York and closer to the things in Yorkshire we want to see. Hopefully he can walk better tomorrow.

  • Sounds like an eventful few days with 5 or 4 hoods harrasing you and dad hurting his toe.

He should probably get it checked out if it is hurting still (I guess the travel insurance will cover the costs).

I hope the place you are staying at now is a bit safer!
