Homeward Bound
We are now on the last leg of our journey. Decided that for the final few days making our way to Heathrow we would visit Schropshire, the heart of England. Having woken to miserable cold and wet weather, myself with a sore throat and the imminent start of a cold, we decided to use the time to visit indoor places starting with Much Wenlock Priory. This actually is not indoors as it is a ruin of an abbey and with the wind blowing and the rain sprinkling, rugged in our jackets and umbrellas held high, we wandered around listening to the history of the place. After which we decided to head to Boscobel House which was a hunting lodge used as a safe house for Catholic Priests during the decimation of the Catholic Church in England. It was also used as a safe house by King Charles II on his escape to France following the defeat of his army by Cromwell. The priest holes in the house were quite amazing and undetectable by the naked eye. Very small (about 4ft deep) when hiding someone such as the King who was 6ft 2".
Taking a break from such old history we moved on to Cosford RAF Museum housing an extremely large collection of planes from both world wars and also prototype planes that heralded the development of some of our more moden fighter jets of today.
Monday after a visit to Iron Bridge we headed to Dudley to visit Uncle George and catch up for the final time before heading off home. That evening we went to his local with George and his neighbours Kath & Tony for an extremely enjoyable meal and evening. Next day we headed to our hotel near Heathrow to enable an early start back.
The queue at Heathrow was unexpectedly short, only taking 1.5 hours to check in and another hour to get through security compared to earlier in the week taking up to 5 hours, and so we jetted off to Singapore. Arriving at 8am Singapore time to 27 degrees and humidity. Tired from the flight we caught up on a little sleep and later headed out to Orchard Road. Next day walked to China Town and checked out a couple of local sites, by which time the temperature was about 34 and humidity about 90%. Walking back to the hotel for a quick shower before the bus picked us up for the airport and final leg home.
We arrived at Melbourne airport 4:45am this morning to 7 degrees which seemed a little chilly after Singapore. Catching the 7am flight to Adelaide we finally got back at 8 am to 5 degrees. Oh it is so good to be home.
Hope you have enjoyed the story of our travels, I have enjoyed keeping this diary and hope to put some pictures on once we have sorted them, so keep tuned if interested and you may get to glimpse some of the sites we have been so entralled by during our trip.
