Ireland to Lakes District

Left Northern Ireland today on Ferry to Stranaer. Crossing was a little rough and was glad to get to land. Weather is deteriorating day by day but I suppose that is to be expected now we are into August. After landing, took a while to get car off ferry, we drove down to Lake District where we had managed to secure accommodation for 2 nights at Keswick, near Derwent Water.

Yesterday we went on cruise on Derwent Water whereby you could hop off at various spots to do the suggested walk. Decided to get off at first stop being Ashness Gate and walk up the mountain to Ashness Bridge and Surprise View. Amazing view from there and could understand why it was so named. On the way to the next viewpoint we noticed a past to High Lodore falls and decided that would be a lovely walk. Later we realised that it was probably a better walk for goats than humans but we had gone so far that we really couldn't turn back so we decended the mountain on the "goat track" and after several near mishaps arrived safely at the bottom. We did see the falls but unfortunately couldn't get into a position to take a photo without putting life and limb in danger. We then had to walk to the next landing area where the boat would pick us up which was very nice along boardwalk and forest walk. Overall we probably walked about 4 hours and did 20 minutes on the cruise to get there and back to Keswick.

We are moving on today heading to London where we depart on Wednesday and hopefully some of the restrictions in place at the moment will be lifted as they are in a critical alert state and you can only take passport and money in clear bag, everything else has to go into normal luggage which is a bit of a worry as with all the extra luggage there is more chance of damage and/or loss. Taking it in our stride we will just wait and see.
